Saratoga En Pointe

Artist Statement - Linda Biggers

As long as I can remember, art has been an important part of my life. As a child, I spent every spare minute drawing or painting. For years, I dabbled in photography, painting, sculpture and a huge variety of crafts and worked as a graphic designer for 18 years. In 1998, I discovered eggshell and mixed media mosaic. I love texture, brilliant colors and creating pieces that will evoke feelings and emotions to the viewer.
I live in Upstate New York with my husband and two daughters. I am an active participant in local art shows in Albany, Saratoga and Adirondack Regions.
My work can be seen at www.eggshellmosaicart.com and art shows and galleries in Fulton, Saratoga, and Schenectady Counties.
I would like to introduce you to my newest project: Saratoga En Pointe sponsored by the National Museum of Dance, Saratoga Springs, NY.  www.dancemuseum.org

The Saratoga En Pointe Project

I am honored to be chosen to participate in this wonderful project. Twenty-four artists will be creating artworks, using a five foot tall ballet pointe shoe. These shoes will be displayed in various areas of Saratoga Springs.

I will be sharing with you, my journey in the progression of my pointe shoe. I am looking forward to February 1, the day I will receive the shoe and get started. Until then, I will be collecting materials, preparing my work area. Since I do not have studio space, I work on my dining room table and outside during the summer and when the weather allows. I will be transforming my dining room into a temporary studio, but must still share with my family! So this will be an adventure!

This is a picture of the pointe shoes that the artists will receive.

This is my idea for decorating the point shoe. The tentative name for this will be En Avant which is a ballet term for stepping forward. But as I look at my drawing, I am thinking more about “The Dancer’s Muse”  I am feeling that the dancer stepping out of the shoe is like a muse for a ballet dancer. I’ll think about this more as I work on this…hopefully a great name will come about.
